South Hadley Cosmetic Dentist

A beautiful smile makes a great first impression, improves confidence, and, according to recent research, may even help you get a new job or a promotion. Straight, evenly spaced, and bright smiles also offer significant advantages to oral health. Teeth that look healthy tend to be easier to clean and encourage patients to put in the effort to maintain their brilliant smile. Unfortunately, few patients are born with the picture-perfect smiles they desire. If you’re not in love with your smile, contact Newton Street Dental. Our South Hadley, MA dentistry practice welcomes patients from Northampton and other nearby communities.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are a popular cosmetic dentistry service because they allow patients to essentially hit the “reset button” on their smile. Thin sheaths of dental grade porcelain are crafted to cover the front facing portions of teeth, concealing any number of smile flaws, including chips, cracks, gaps, and stains. With proper care, veneers can last for a decade or longer, and because they’re stain resistant, they maintain their beautiful appearance for years. The process is simple and can typically be completed over the course of two short appointments. During the first visit, a minimal amount of tooth enamel is removed in order to allow the veneer to fit seamlessly into the smile. A temporary veneer is placed to protect teeth. Once the custom veneer is completed, patients return to exchange their temporary for a high quality custom veneer.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

For decades, amalgam fillings have set the standard in restoring minor areas of dental decay or damage, but the silver coloring and expansion and contraction of the material caused by changes in temperature makes them less than ideal. Our team offers tooth-colored fillings as a great alternative. Composite resin fillings are not only more cosmetically appealing, but they also offer significant advantages for oral health. The material is applied directly to the tooth, shaped, and hardened into place. There’s no layer of bonding agent between the natural dental structure and the restoration, making the bond between the tooth and the filling stronger. Additionally, composite resin does not expand and contract when exposed to hot or cold temperatures, significantly reducing the odds of further damaging teeth due to the shifting of fillings.

Direct Bonding

Direct bonding, sometimes referred to as cosmetic bonding or simply bonding, uses the same composite resin filling material as tooth-colored fillings to repair or conceal cosmetic flaws. For patients with minor chips, gaps, cracks, and stains, direct bonding may be a faster, more affordable alternative to porcelain veneers. Direct bonding is simple and can typically be completed in a single visit. We apply and shape the resin material into position directly on the tooth and harden the material into position with a curing light. Unlike porcelain veneers, cosmetic bonding discolors and wears away over time, so the cosmetic treatment does not last as long as veneers. No treatment is right for every patient. Schedule a cosmetic dentistry consultation to find out whether veneers or bonding is the best option for your smile.

When patients think of orthodontics, they often imagine adolescents with a mouth full of metal brackets and wires, but at Newton Street Dental, we offer a more cosmetic alternative – Invisalign. Using a series of clear, plastic alignment trays, the Invisalign orthodontic system gradually shifts teeth into their ideal alignment over the course of about twelve months. Invisalign offers patients comfortable, virtually invisible smile alignment. The removable aligners have the added benefit of allowing patients to continue their regular oral hygiene routines and continue to eat all of the same foods. In addition to requiring less time overall, patients also save time with fewer, less extensive checkup appointments throughout treatment.

At-Home Tooth Whitening

The aisles full of whitening toothpastes, mouthwashes, strips, and gels in any local pharmacy make it clear that teeth whitening is a popular cosmetic dentistry option, but despite the promises made by these over the counter whitening products, the results are unimpressive. Professional-grade teeth whitening is actually able to deliver the dramatic results it promises smiles – in fact, it can improve their brightness by up to ten shades over the course of two weeks of treatment. Using custom crafted application trays and professional grade whitening gel, professional at-home whitening kits are comfortable and effective.
